A study sponsored by the U.S. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) will not release a report that links electronic cigarette use to better lung function, according to sources.
Leaked to the media are some findings that appear to bolster the assertion that vaporizers present a safer option compared to tobacco consumption.
The 24-month study followed 560 volunteers that agreed to replace tobacco products with vaporizers. Among the 560 volunteers, half (280) were supplied with e-juice in a variety of flavors that contained nicotine. The second group of 280 received non-nicotine e-juice in the same flavors.
206 volunteers in the nicotine group stayed tobacco-free at the end of the study, compared to only 16 in the non-nicotine group.
The fact that e-cigarettes are great smoking cessation tools has been known for several years, however, the fact that vapes can significantly improve lung function is new.
“It’s the smoking gun with the silver bullet,” said a researcher with the project, on the condition of anonymity.
“Lung function improved by over 50 percent in all groups, regardless if nicotine was present or not,” said our source. “And it occurred within 6 months of vaporizing,” the source added.
The study, according to one source, will never see the light of day.
Some of the information in this report has been edited to protect the source’s identity.

Spazmelda Whee -- September 4, 2014 at 7:34 am. If this story is true, the anonymous researcher needs to find some way to blow the whistle on this. I understand not wanting to damage your career, but the lives of smokers are at stake here. This is information that needs to come out. Derullandei -- September 5, 2014 at 1:11 pm. If we actually supported the whistleblowers, that might encourage them. Seems fishy to me, too, despite how much I *want* this to be true. JP Zajackowski -- September 4, 2014 at 12:30 pm. I agree! Captain Hindsight -- September 5, 2014 at 2:01 pm -- Most people don’t realize the dangers when it comes to being a whistle-blower. Take “deepthroat” from the Watergate scandal, for instance. He could have been snuffed out and discredited instantaneously, but because of anonymity. He was able to enlighten the public about the wrong-doings of one of our presidents which lead to his impeachment. There are a bunch of risks being a whistle-blower… Brian Powers -- October 3, 2014 at 9:49 pm -- Nixon wasn’t impeached. Lepard -- September 4, 2014 at 11:36 am. Norbert Zillatron -- September 4, 2014 at 11:48 am. Well, this is consistent with what I have read in many “anecdotes” from vapers who had their lung functions checked because of COPD/asthma they had while still smoking and rechecked after vaping a while. Kevin Reed -- September 4, 2014 at 12:14 pm. I am one of those many “anecdotes” from vapers who had their lung functions checked because of COPD they had while still smoking and rechecked after vaping for 9 months. now on Sept 18th it will be 3 years smoke free. I do agree that the “leak” needs to be backed up. Norbert Zillatron -- September 4, 2014 at 12:45 pm. I posted the idea to collect the (scientifically useful) data to Dr. Farsalinos https:--www.facebook.com/konstantinos.farsalinos/posts/359488117536279 He’s interested, but the problem has been the collection of data. I don’t understand why the story was even posted. If you can’t cite the source, or provide references, you’re no only part of the problem and not the solution. Meghan Jenks -- September 4, 2014 at 1:00 pm. I hate to say it, but this shouldn’t even have been posted. It smacks of conspiracy theory and with no source or citations it’s meaningless. It’s the sort of thing I’d expect to see on sites like Natural News or Info Wars. Yes, as vapers we have all seen the benefits of e-cigarettes in people’s ability to quit and improved health – but when “we” as a community start talking about hypothetical research that’s being hidden because of a conspiracy, it makes us look hysterical and discredits the movement. Norbert Zillatron -- September 4, 2014 at 1:37 pm. So what? Everybody knows that this is not “hard facts”. But it is good to know and maybe–if it is true–this might encourage somebody to step forward and blow the whistle. Before I started to look more closely at what so-called “experts” and “scientists” were pretending as “facts” about ecigs, I used to sneer at conspiracy theories. Now I got my own (figurative) tin foil hat collection. First we need the information. Then we can verify it or not. Lupus -- September 18, 2014 at 5:02 pm. Not naming a source does impact credibility and I do understand the position of whoever leaked this story BUT if you want studies to promote the upside of vaping may I suggest a lot of lengthy reads found at … http:--www.ecigalternativeDOTcom/ecigarette-studies-research.htm Help spread the good news! Jeff -- September 4, 2014 at 1:30 pm. Unfortunately from an un-proven news source such as ‘thevapemonitor’ something like this may as well be fiction. A site without a huge reputation to protect has to provide credible sources for their information if it’s to be believed. Otherwise it’s just In-Industry Shilling Craig Gijoesenior Stuart -- September 4, 2014 at 4:02 pm. Do you really think that BIG PHARM and BIG TOBACCO want you to hear that vaping actually saves lives. I dont think so they will throw huge money grease as many pockets as possible to squash any form of positivity for ecigs. billybobbibb -- September 4, 2014 at 5:40 pm. News flash: Big Pharma and Big Tobacco are not the conspiratorial enemies you think they are. Big Tobacco is already selling cigalikes, and any new FDA regulations will impact them negatively, since they already have skin in the game. Likewise, the only reason Big Pharma isn’t selling e-cigs and e-juice themselves is because FDA hasn’t classified e-cigs as smoking cessation devices, and their hands are tied right now. Should FDA green-light e-cigs as smoking cessation aids, Pharma will jump into the e-juice game so fast it will make your head spin. And they already have the GMP manufacturing facilities too, something your corner vape shop lacks, giving them a HUGE advantage. Your enemy is actually the public health official invested in tobacco control (derisively known as ANTZ), whose power is increased by additional authority over e-cigs. That’s why they are bleating the loudest, with deceptive public service campaigns that overstate dangers and suppress favorable facts. If everyone quit tobacco today, they would be out of a job, and this is the threat they see with e-cigs. ninjaChopstick -- September 4, 2014 at 8:24 pm. They actually are. RJR has submitted documentation and requests to the FDA to ban open top (tank and RDA style) ecigs. They are just fine with the cigalikes because that is what they invested in. Coming straight from an RJR rep (I’ve been in the tobacco industry for 19 years and have a good relationship with my rep), Big Tobacco is upset because they chose the wrong product to back. They thought cigalikes were the future and tank systems were a fad. Now that is not the case, they cannot get into the game as cheaply as they did with cigalikes. Big Tobacco wants to ban all other form of ecigs. vincent_lewis -- September 4, 2014 at 11:34 pm. Stupid thing is, it would be super cheap AND easy for big tobacco to just make and sell juice… Norbert Zillatron -- September 5, 2014 at 9:46 am -- But their whole business is tuned to produce huge numbers of a very limited selection of products. One of the key elements for the success of vaping is the vast variety of liquids. It begins with the different compositions of the base (VG/PG/nicotine level). But the most important is the diversity in flavors. Tastes are very individual. You need this multitude to find the right ones for you. Those flavors that turn a replacement for smoking into something far superior for you. No way those lumering giants could provide this plethora. What they really could provide would be the nicotine base for mixing. I may be a bit paranoid by now, but I would be suspicious about the purity of anything they provide. I don’t want any additives in there. Nothing but nicotine and PG/VG as solvent. Jamie York -- September 4, 2014 at 11:47 pm. Big tobacco may be selling e cigs but the ones big tobacco sells has over 13 chemicals that doesnt sound like much but it is. A cigarette contains 4000 plus chemicals 50 of which are harmful carcinogens it is proven that the lack of nic hit in the look alike cigs make people relapse back to cigs. On a study 9 out of 10 people who use the look alike e cigs and a tobacco flavor relapse back to cigs within 30 to 90 days. Also on the fda website RJ Reynolds is backing the fda on the harsh restrictions on vaporizer style ecigs calling for a open container ecig ban which would ban all e cig products except for the cigarette look alikes. Now a electronic vaporizer utilizes as low as three chemicals. Pg which is in asthma inhalers to carry medicine to its user and also in mio fit for a flavor carrier. Electeonic vaporizers use this to carry the nic to the user and to carry flavor. Vg which is in 92 percent of all vegitable based products in the united states and which has been fda approved since the first year the fda was introduced. Liquid nicotine which not all vaporizers use can also be found in everyday v egitables like t omatos, cauliflower, and potatoes and some vapor shops utilize this version because its more safer for the user. Ever wonder why people love pizza italian food want a baked potato with steak? Well know you know what chemical drives your endorphins in your brain to crave it. Dont worry its a low dose but is a great replacement to traditional tobacco. A electeonic vaporizer wouldnt even produce 0.05 percent of what a traditional cig produces when it comes to harm. Its a no Brainer. Also there is four united states senators against electeonic vaporizers using the excuse that flavors appeal to kids well my defense is we have flavored liquors even candy cane liquors but they aren’t banned its simple parents take the stand and keep it away from your kids and by law you have to be 18 to purchase a electronic vaporizer so problem solved. Oh and those four senators took money during thier campaigns from companies like Marlboro, Salem, Winston, so you do the math of why they protest. I have had a respiratory therapist approve electeonic vaporizers saying its a healthier alternative. A British study at oxford university has shown that electronic vaporizers produce no second hand so the post above just even proves the truth even more. If you use a vaporizer or want to know information on them I suggest you go to CASAA.org this organization has done its own studies and has went to bat for support of vapor stores and vaporizer rights I rest my statement. FDA studies are paid in part or fully with tax dollars so ALL studies should be public record good, bad or indifferent. That is the point of a study to see what can be proven or what does or does not work. If you conduct a study to see if pigs can fly and the study shows pigs can’t fly that does not mean the study is bad and should be thrown out it just means pigs can’t fly…. Nicholle Lambert -- September 5, 2014 at 7:40 pm. Some of you question if this is actually true because there’s no proof who the source is. And while I make no claim that I have proof of any such study, I can tell you it’s true through personal experience. My father had COPD and had to use a CPAP at night and carry around an oxygen tank in the day. After vaping for one year, his doctor determined that he didn’t need to use the CPAP or the oxygen tank anymore. Nothing can cure COPD, but I’m telling you now that improved lung function IS a reality from using e-cigs. Reporting on a study that cannot be reviewed is nothing more than spreading rumors. In the scientific and medical communities, if you cannot produce the results of a study, it did not exist. I say this article is not about a study that was done, but written by a vaper that is hoping to sway those too stupid not to think on their own. Both sides in this battle are doing things like this, and it is disgusting. Ray Henry -- September 19, 2014 at 3:23 pm.
